The inaugural Ambassador Cup will officially debut August 28–30, 2026, bringing Santa Cruz 70 regatta with spectator friendly exhibition racing, waterfront hospitality, and an entirely new kind of sailing experience to Detroit.
Centered around the spirit of Great Lakes offshore racing and the culture that surrounds it, the Ambassador Cup is more than an event. It is a celebration of camaraderie, competition, and Detroit’s growing connection to the water.
And for the first time, the public will have the opportunity to witness it all up close aboard HYDRA also a Santa Cruz 70 passenger vessel.

What is the Ambassador Cup?

The event will feature SC70 exhibition racing on the Detroit River, bringing together elite-level offshore racing yachts against the backdrop of the Detroit skyline and the iconic Ambassador Bridge.

In a move almost unheard of in the world of offshore racing, the Ambassador Cup is opening the experience directly to the community.
Guests will have the opportunity to register for free charter experiences aboard HYDRA, a legendary Santa Cruz 70 racing yacht built for speed, power, and offshore performance.
No yacht club membership.
No prior sailing experience.
No ticket cost.
Just an opportunity to step aboard and experience one of the most exciting sailing platforms on the Great Lakes firsthand.
