Intermediate Crew Training
This 3-day program is designed for sailors with basic racing experience who want to become confident, effective crew members aboard a large offshore racing yacht.
The Intermediate Race Crew Training focuses on understanding how a big-boat race team functions as a system. Participants are introduced to each major crew position and how those roles interact before, during, and after maneuvers. Emphasis is placed on situational awareness, timing, communication, and being in the right place at the right time.
Training Includes:
- Overview of all primary crew positions on a large racing yacht.
- How each position supports others during maneuvers.
- Where to be and what to do during tacks, gybes, sail changes, and mark roundings.
- Best practices for being helpful and efficient on deck.
- Basic offshore etiquette and safety awareness.
- Introduction to long-distance and overnight racing routines.
This program is ideal for sailors looking to step up from smaller boats or casual racing and become reliable, contributing members of an offshore race crew.
Advanced Crew Training
The Advanced Race Crew Training program is intended for experienced sailors seeking deeper technical knowledge, leadership capability, and readiness for high-level offshore racing.
This program dives into the details of each crew position, with a strong focus on decision-making, problem-solving, and operating under pressure. Participants train for real-world racing scenarios, including gear failures, emergency response, and refined boat-handling techniques.
Training Includes:
- In-depth responsibilities and best practices for each crew position.
- Advanced sail handling and deck maneuvers.
- Managing and responding to equipment failures.
- Emergency procedures, including man-overboard response.
- Medical and safety awareness for offshore environments.
- Offshore racing gear, systems, and deck organization.
- Refined crew choreography and high-performance maneuvers.
Advanced training builds on foundational skills through higher-intensity scenarios, deeper technical focus, and real-world offshore decision-making. Crew members are challenged with complex maneuvers, emergency response, and problem-solving under pressure.
